Mary Smith's Hand Quilting Program - May 7, 2016
Mary is like an encyclopedia of quilting and she shared so many tips and tricks with us today.
Most non-quilter ever think about the time and expense involved in making a quilt. There is also a lot of planning involved in choosing your pattern, fabric colors and prints, cutting, piecing and quilting.
There are different type and colors of cotton quilting threads, both waxed and un-waxed. She talked to us about deciding on contrasting or complimentary colors of thread. There were quilting needles so small you could barely see the eye, and we wondered how we would ever thread them. And who knew you could get so many stiches quilted on such a small needle.
We saw several methods of marking your quilting patterns, learned how to hide the knot when you start quilting.
There was a variety of hoops to show, and one that was very unusual, it is used to quilt the border.
Ok ladies, with all that we learned do you think we could all join in and make a quilt as a group?
Would we be able to find someone brave enough to help us?
I am sure it would keep us busy for awhile.
