Community Project

The Chattanooga Fiber Arts Guild is thrilled to announce that with our 2025 community-oriented project: creating handmade hats for oncology patients in our area, we were able to use our talents to bring warmth and comfort to those undergoing treatment.

We donated more than 400 hats throughout the year for this project and are super proud of our members for their work and dedication to this community initiative! Let's see what we will do in 2026!

February 8 Loop Yarn Pillow Class!

Join us for the loop yarn class where Carol Heatherly will be guiding us through this fun and useful technique while creating soft and comfy pillows to bring home! We will be using some fluffy yarn and clever work with our fingers! Remember to bring lunch, a drink, and something you've made for show and tell!

This is a fun and accessible skill for all, please don't hesitate and RSVP today as classes do get full!

March 8: Reverse Applique

Reverse applique is a sewing technique where layers of fabric are sewn together and then the top layer is cut away to reveal the fabric below. The piece can be further embellished with more stitching or the addition of beads, buttons, etc.

In March we will layer a printed fabric with a knit and use a simple running stitch to define a pattern. You will get almost everything you need in a kit, but if you have a fabric you would like to use or want to bring an assortment of embroidery thread and beads that will enable you to further personalize your fabric piece.

Please bring to class a pair of small scissors.

Optional  12" x 12" printed quilt weight fabric, embroidery thread, beads.

April Class: Felt Inchies

Picture

This April, join us for a fun and creative guild gathering as we turn those random notions scattered throughout our craft rooms into Felt Inchies! These tiny, artistic pieces can be used individually or combined into a larger display, making them a perfect way to showcase your unique style. Bring your lunch and make a day of it! We’ll enjoy stitching together, sharing ideas, and connecting with fellow fiber artists and crafters.

Try out different stitches, experiment with buttons, beads, and other embellishments, and don’t forget to bring a show-and-tell item or a work-in-progress project to share with the group. Whether you're a seasoned stitcher or just getting started, this is a great opportunity to learn, be inspired, and enjoy the creative spirit of our guild!

May Paper Embroidery with Zach!

Zach Metzger led a standout paper embroidery class that combined creativity, precision, and a fresh take on traditional techniques. Participants of all skill levels dove into stitching on paper, exploring color, texture, and design in a relaxed and supportive environment. Zach’s clear instruction and artistic vision helped students transform simple materials into stunning works of art. By the end of the session, everyone walked away with a unique embroidered piece—and a newfound appreciation for this accessible and inspiring medium.

June Tambour Embroidery!

Discover the elegant art of tambour embroidery—a technique that uses a small hook to create beautiful chain stitches and intricate beadwork. In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of setting up your fabric, using a tambour hook, and creating your first stitches. Whether you're drawn to traditional hand embroidery or the sparkle of couture embellishment, this class is the perfect place to start your tambour journey. No experience needed—just bring your curiosity and creativity!
Date: June 14

CFA GUILD FIELD TRIP!
July 12 10-2 pm

Picture

In July we are headed to the Gathering of the Guilds in Knoxville! We are looking forward to this opportunity to touch base with other guilds in the area and to make new fiber friends!

This event will replace our normally scheduled class in July! We hope you will join us and get to know some talented fiber artists!

If you are interested, we will be arranging some carpools!

Fellowship Church
8000 MIddlebrook Pike,
Knoxville TN 37909

August Class: Rust Dyeing and Annual Project!

This August, we will want to bring all the rusty items we can find! We will be using our aged findings to create a unique, rust-dyed bag that will serve as a great base for future projects!

We will also be working on our Annual Project! Bring your supplies and let's make progress on our still-life fabric pieces! At the December meeting, we will hold a vote to select the top three designs.

The guild has fabric, threads, and notions to choose from, but if you have a vision, feel free to bring your own supplies.

September: Rug Hooking

Picture
This September we will be working with talented rug hooker and teacher Margaret Mahler!

We have never had a rug hooking class and are looking forward to learning this handy, useful skill!

Come out and make your own rug sample with the guild and decide if rug hooking is your new favorite fiber art!

RSVP Today!

October NEEDLE FELTING

We met Oct. 11th for a needle felting class!

Cecily White and Rebecca Heid will guide participants through two projects!

The first project will be a 3D fall pumpkin and the second a 2D Halloween-themed "Starry Night!"

November Holiday Craft Market:

We met in November at the Knot and Needle Fiber Arts Shop in Hixson for our annual holiday craft market! We created three lovely Chrismtas ornament projects: A kumihimo wire candy cane, a Christmas spiral, and a felt applique santa!

December 13 Holiday Party!

We can't believe it's the end of the year, but we are so excited to celebrate with all of you and reflect on our amazing fiber projects in 2025. The CFA Guild will be providing the main dish and sides for the holiday party, and ask you to help us with some sweet treats to share.

We will be hosting a gift exchange, so please bring an unopened kit, a finished art piece you have made, a favorite tool, or something else fiber-oriented for our exchange ($15-20). Participation is not required, of course!

We will be unveiling the Still-Life Challenge pieces and voting on the top three, who will receive a special prize!

This has been a wonderful year, and it was made so by all of you who have been with us throughout. Let's celebrate and enjoy our last meeting of 2025!
